What is Biochar?

Biochar is essentially a special type of charcoal made by heating organic material 🌾 (like wood chips or crop residue) in a container with little to no oxygen. This process is called pyrolysis. The resulting product is a stable, porous, carbon-rich material that looks a lot like charcoal but is used specifically to improve soil.
